Larry Kirkland's article "'Them' and 'Us': A View from the Middle" (June) was inappropriately hostile and offered no constructive criticism. Since only his side of the story was presented, it's hard to judge the situation. If the nurses were being difficult, perhaps they need in-service training. Then again, maybe Kirkland did not understand the nurses' priorities regarding hospital policy and patient safety. Perhaps a more appropriate target for Kirkland's complaint would have been the hospital's administration.
