I was inspired by "Behaviors Associated with Dementia" (A New Look at the Old, July). I am a student pursuing my bachelor's of science in nursing in an accelerated program and hope to specialize in geriatrics. The article is sensitive to both the patients and their frustrated and challenged caregivers.
The article mentions that the studies that have sought to determine the effectiveness of these interventions have provided mixed results, mostly because of the diverse symptoms patients can have. Is there research that demonstrates that these techniques are well received by people with dementia or their caregivers, and that they produce a significant benefit?
