Tracking people with dementia or autism who wander. About 60% of people with Alzheimer's disease and 49% of those with autism wander, and some cases end tragically. To address this problem, a voluntary program in Los Angeles County, called Bringing Our Loved Ones Home, provides trackable bracelets to people with dementia or autism. If these people disappear, they can be located by signals sent from the bracelet to receiving equipment in patrol cars and helicopters operated by the sheriff's department. Since 1999, the bracelet system has supported 3,300 successful searches in the United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries.
