I fully support pain medication for those in need; however we have an epidemic of prescription pain medication abuse on our hands. As an RN for 22 years, I think the problem is getting worse. Our providers have to be more proactive about who they prescribe medications to. There also needs to be more insurance coverage of pain medication, as well as more facilities that offer rehab to people addicted. Until that happens, I am afraid we will see overdose deaths continue to rise.
