Thank you for publishing "Supporting Nurses and Nursing Students with Disabilities" (Viewpoint, October 2015).

As the coeditor of Back Injury Among Healthcare Workers: Causes, Solutions, and Impacts (CRC Press, 2003), I think we should also be discussing the need for employers to retain nurses who become disabled while working. The need is critical for nursing organizations and working nurses to develop programs to assist employers in retaining these nurses-not as an offshoot of advocating hiring nurses with disabilities in general but as a stand-alone effort to improve retention among employers whose nurses have become disabled while caring for patients in their facilities.
