Educational Opportunities for Beginners to Advanced Practitioners
A wide variety of educational opportunities will be available to attendees at the annual Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin & Wound Care, being held September 9-12, 2011, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland, just minutes away from Washington, District of Columbia. In addition to daily general sessions, breakout sessions covering basic, intermediate, and advanced topics will be presented.
Among the presentations scheduled at the basic wound care level are "Pressure Ulcers: Dilemmas in Identification," "Understanding Dermatology and Treatments," "International Consensus Statement on Skin Tears," and "Psychological and Social Impacts of Chronic Wound Care."
At the intermediate level, planned topics include "Critical Limb Ischemia," "Support Surfaces: Testing Criteria: How to Utilize Research Results," "Anatomy and Physiology of a CME Article," and "Reimbursement: What's New?"
For those interested in more advanced topics, sessions include "Aggressive Treatment of Venous Stasis Ulcers: A Fresh Approach to an Old Disease," "Incorporating Midlevel Providers into the Wound Care Team," "Why the Individual with Diabetes Refuses to Recognize Life-Threatening Wounds," and "Real-Time Care of Lymphedema Patients."
In addition to the variety of educational sessions, the symposium is proud to host some very special speakers this year. One of them is United States Army Brigadier General Rhonda Cornum, MD, PhD, Director of the Army's Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program, who will present "Caring for Warriors and their Wounds" at a general session for all attendees on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Gen Cornum is a highly decorated soldier and Desert Storm veteran. Among her many experiences in military service, her Blackhawk helicopter was shot down in 1991 as she served as a flight surgeon during Desert Storm. Of the 8-person crew, 5 were killed. The 3 survivors, including Gen Cornum, were captured by Iraqi forces and held for 8 days before being repatriated. You won't want to miss her intriguing presentation.
