It was disturbing to learn of the lack of funding and resources for research into sickle cell disease ("Improving Sickle Cell Disease Care," Policy and Politics, August). In recent years, bone marrow transplant has become an available treatment for this disease and is its only known cure. As nurses, we need to advocate for the resources necessary to ensure access to this treatment and other therapies that improve quality of life for patients with sickle cell disease.
