Professional nursing roles extend into specialty patient care, and developing student learning opportunities for these environments is needed. With clinical experiences primarily offered on medical-surgical units, knowledge and exposure to specialty environments can be limited. Prior to our strategy implementation, students reported specialty clinical practice to be exciting and concerning simultaneously. Using flipped learning can assist to decrease concerns by providing an "insider view" prior to clinical practice and patient care. Through the use of screencasting technology, the instructor created a video that students can view for clinical preparation. The video provides current pictures of the practice environment with verbal and written explanations about the flow of patient care, evidence-based practice guidelines, and clinical role expectations set by the clinical instructor. The video guides students through the clinical experience and answers preparation and expectation questions. In addition, this clinical preparation can be viewed as many times as the student needs. The overall goal for this preparation style is to support students' learning in providing patient care rather than asking fundamental questions and feeling out of place. In response to the strategy's use, students expressed the ability to learn and provide care because they felt prepared and had a sense of what to expect. Screencast videos provide nursing students with necessary clinical preparatory information to support optimal clinical performance.
