Escape rooms allow students to apply content learned to create codes and escape virtual rooms. This activity allows the simultaneous review of priority topics and knowledge application to NCLEX-style questions. There are many examples of escape rooms covering a single topic, but there are few, if any, multitopic nursing escape activities and none to synthesize course content. For the course final examination review, the authors created an Escape the Nursing Building activity using Google slides and forms. Google Slides is an application that allowed the authors to easily collaborate while creating the rooms and then to share presentations with text and photos with students. Similar to Microsoft PowerPoint, Google slides are hosted online and can be accessed in a web browser from any device with an Internet connection. Students could access the activity with a phone, iPad, or computer. For each course unit, a virtual faculty office was created with links to videos, webpages, or Google slides on unit topics. Students reviewed the content and followed a link to a Google form to answer practice questions. Students then created a code using the correct answers to open the lock and escape to the next room/office. If unsuccessful, they could return to the content for review before reattempting the questions. Students could not advance to the next room/office without escaping the one prior. Once all locks were opened, students escaped the nursing building! An evaluation of the activity showed that more than 75% of students felt content was consistent with the course material and 84% felt questions required them to think critically about the content.
