At the winter board meeting, the executive board reviewed and revised the ASPSN Strategic Plan for 2005. Taking the time to assess the strategic plan requires a commitment from all of the board members. We must be cognizant as to what the key issues facing our organization are and be willing to listen to all and to every idea that is addressed. As a board, we must remain flexible and open to organizational change and have a clear vision as to the direction in which we want our association to move.

If you were an athlete, your team wouldn't enter a playoff game without a game plan. The team would come together with the captain and the coach to outline a strategy. They would learn everything they could about the opposition and then outline a strategy to draw on their strengths.

 

A strategic plan is necessary for our organization to stay focused on our mission and to set future priorities and objectives, so we may decide what needs to be done most and how this will be achieved. All objectives should be action-oriented and SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, resourced, and timed. (Darlington, 2004).

 

The very process of planning and developing a strategic plan will foster growth and development of ASPSN and the membership.
