Last week, a nurse from the quality assurance department came to observe in the medical/surgical unit where I work. She followed each one of the nurses around for about half an hour—walking right into patients' rooms, watching what we were doing, and taking detailed notes. But she wouldn't let any of us see her notes and she wouldn't tell us why she was there .
I know our hospital's been preparing for our accreditation review, but we've all heard rumors about staff cuts and the unit is buzzing. Do we have the right to demand an explanation? —N.J., CALIF.
