Abstract

Students skipping breakfast is an obstacle to healthy eating style and is linked to obesity. Promoting a healthy eating style in school may aid in defining lifelong healthy eating patterns. A sample group of 483 public school students enrolled in family and consumer science classes' grades 7 through 12 from 15 schools were surveyed. The survey elicited responses about actions, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, habits, and intentions about consuming breakfast. This paper looks at broadly identified obstacles and behavior risks for children that interfere with consuming breakfast and identifies the individual obstacles identified within the sample surveyed.
