Abstract

This survey reports the opinions and beliefs of 1020 registered dietitians about diet modifications with thickened beverages including perspectives about their service delivery. Registered dietitians expressed confidence in their knowledge about swallowing disorders and support for the use of thickened beverages in dysphagia management. Results highlight the collaborative nature of dysphagia management especially with the speech-language pathologist. Registered dietitians were knowledgeable about product selection but were less involved in other aspects of clinical practice such as instruction about their use. Standards in dysphagia practices and service delivery of thickened beverages remain a concern for the provision of quality nutrition care in clinical practice.
