Abstract
Following trends of the general population, there has been an increased prevalence of overweight and obesity in renal transplant recipients. Obesity increases the risk of surgery for a number of reasons, which can lead to increased costs and risk for complications. With a limited supply of kidneys available for transplant along with the continuously increasing waiting list of recipients, it is important that renal transplant centers accurately assess the patient's body composition. The purpose of this project was to review the transplant nutrition assessment literature and survey mid-Atlantic transplant centers about their body composition assessment criteria for transplant.
