About this photograph, Kashi explains, "Evelyn Bartholow, age 86, was among those injured when a tornado decimated the town of Spencer, South Dakota, on May 30, 1998. Even before the tornado, this small farming community was in decline; more than half its residents were senior citizens witnessing their way of life vanish. The tornado destroyed most of the town's buildings, including Ms. Bartholow's home and business. By August 1998, when this photo was taken, she was living in a residence for senior citizens in a nearby town." For more of Kashi's work, visit http://www.edkashi.com.
