I read your Editor's Note "Positively a Nurse" (May 2007) with great interest. I, too, have a son, Steven, who will soon be a nurse. Like Cheryl Mee, I helped my son consider the pros and cons of making that career choice. To help him solidify his decision, I had him shadow me for a day in a busy medical oncology unit. He loved the fast pace, the extensive wound care I performed, and the incidental teaching I did by habit. And he saw that a nurse has to be intelligent, flexible, organized, and compassionate.

Whenever I'm asked, "Would you recommend someone enter the nursing profession?" I can easily answer yes. I'm confident that bright, courageous, energized novices will steer nursing in the right direction. And someday they'll be taking care of us!!
