Response from the Author:

I concur with Ms. Pickett that the dipstick pad method has the potential to be a very useful tool for UTI management in the elderly; also that a protocol is essential. I would like to remind readers that, in the USA, the urine dipstick test falls under CLIA guidelines and, in order to meet these guidelines, the test must be included in the dipstick manufacturer's instructions.1 Therefore, to reiterate, manufacturer's protocols are essential.
