I was astounded at how one-sided the article on nurse/physician relationships was. The gist seems to be that our communication problems are due to physician issues. Where is the other side of this story?

I've been a nurse for 30 years and have seen plenty of bad communication from nurses. Some nurses call physicians constantly, never stopping to organize their calls or think about what time it is. I've also seen plenty of abusive behavior by nurses.

How well do nurses understand what being a physician is like? The article refers to some nurse-managers who routinely survey physicians about communication issues-maybe this journal should do the same.

Good communication respects both sides of an issue. We as a profession do ourselves a disservice when we publish articles like this one that seem to place the blame for a two-sided problem on other colleagues.
