The device can help you confirm correct gastric tube placement, but doesn't eliminate the need for an X-ray to definitively confirm tip location. The detector attaches to all feeding and nasogastric tubes. If CO2 is present, indicating inadvertent tracheal cannulation, the paper in the detector turns yellow; if no CO2 is present, indicating correct tube placement, the paper stays purple.

Cervical cancer treatment approved. Women with late-stage cervical cancer may benefit from a combination of topotecan HCl (Hycamtin) and cisplatin, just approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This drug combination is specifically indicated for women with stage IV-B (incurable), recurrent, or persistent cancer of the cervix that spreads to other organs and isn't likely to respond to treatment with surgery or radiation. In clinical trials, the combination therapy significantly improved survival compared with the use of cisplatin alone: Patients on combined therapy survived about 3 months longer than patients on cisplatin alone.
