The New York State Board for Nursing has passed a motion to recommend that in the future, RNs with nursing diplomas or associate degrees be required to obtain a baccalaureate degree within 10 years of initial licensure. Nurses licensed at the time the requirement takes effect would be exempt. The motion must go before the New York State Board of Regents before becoming enforceable.
