I've been a labor and delivery nurse for 12 years. Recently one of my patients, an immigrant from the Middle East, objected to my caring for her because letting a strange man provide intimate care was against her religion. To accommodate her, my nurse-manager reassigned me, and I was okay with that. But then I heard about a situation in which a white patient refused to let any black nurse care for her.
