When I started my new job a few weeks ago, my nurse preceptor confided that she tapes every conversation she has at work. She recommended that I do it too, for my own protection. She even showed me a microcassette tape recorder she carries concealed in her uniform pocket. When I asked her why she does this, she said she knows nurses who've been fired on trumped-up charges and wants to protect herself from such a fate.
