Yesterday I left a patient's room in tears, unable to finish caring for her. Like my sister Karen, who was diagnosed just a week ago, this patient had multiple sclerosis (MS). I couldn't help thinking, This is what will happen to Karen soon . I want to provide good care for this patient, but I'm not sure I can. Would I be out of line to ask for a reassignment?I.G., MONT.
Your reaction is understandable; you've had only a few days to process your feelings about your sister's diagnosis. Try not to be so hard on yourself.
