AN ESTIMATED 384,325 health care workers are injured by needles and other sharps each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And nurses sustain the largest share of injuries overall-about 44%, according to EPINet (Exposure Prevention Information Network) data for 2001.

Nursing2003 is committed to educating nurses about the use of safety-engineered devices. Your candid responses to this survey will help us identify why sharps injuries occur and how to prevent them. We'll report survey results in a future issue.

Send your response to Nursing2003 Sharps-Safety Survey, 1111 Bethlehem Pike, P.O. Box 908, Springhouse, PA 19477, fax it to 215-653-0826, or take it online at http://www.nursing2003.com (click "Resources and Surveys"). The cutoff date for survey responses is October 31, 2003.
