Abstract

The Human Genome Project is aimed at sequencing all our deoxyribonucleic acid, elucidating the functions of our genes and interactions of their products. This will lead not only to the mechanism and ultimately therapy and prevention of genetic disease, but also to understanding and prevention of common population disorders caused by interactions between our genetic predisposition, environment, and nutrition. This article deals with both scientific and social consequence of the rapid progress.
