This month's cover photo shows a scene all too common in East Africa-the burial of a child who died of malnutrition. The child, one-year-old Liin Muhumed Surow, died at the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees' Ifo Extension camp outside of Dadaab, Kenya, and was buried on August 6. There have been thousands of such deaths recently-more than 29,000 children under the age of five in southern Somalia alone, according to reports from the Associated Press. The area has been plagued by one of the worst droughts and famines in decades, and the UN estimates that 750,000 more people may die in Somalia in the next few months if relief is not forthcoming. For more information on this humanitarian crisis and how you can help, see this month's Editorial and also read a report on our blog by a nurse who's been there (http://wp.me/prthD-2ib).-Maureen Shawn Kennedy, editor-in-chief
